Alexandrescu, Grigore

Alexandrescu, Grigore grēgô´rĕ əlĕksəndrĕ´sko͝o [key], 1812–85, Romanian poet. Of a noble family, he was active in secret revolutionary societies. In his fables he commented ironically on the complications of living in a Russian protectorate and tried to encourage pride in the national heritage. InThe Tombs at Drăgăşanihe recalls the greatness of the Romanian past.
