Barrios, Eduardo

Barrios, Eduardo āᵺwär´ᵺō bär´yōs [key], 1884–1963, Chilean novelist, short-story writer, and playwright. He was director of libraries and minister of education in Chile. As a writer he was interested in the inner workings of his characters, especially the unstable or abnormal, whom he analyzed with sympathy. His works includeEl niño que se enloqueció de amor[the child who went mad because of love] (1915) andGran señor y rajadiablos[big operator and hellraiser] (1948).
