Fredonia

Fredonia frēdō´nēə [key], village (1990 pop. 10,436), Chautauqua co., SW N.Y., near Lake Erie; inc. 1829. Grape juice, wine, and canned foods are produced. Fredonia was the site of the first natural-gas well in the United States. The first local unit of theGranger movementwas also founded there. The State Univ. of New York has a campus at Fredonia.
