The daughter of a singing clown in the Barnum & Bailey Circus, Burke began acting at a young age and starred in a dozen silent films. She marriedFlorenz Ziegfeldin 1914; after his death she devoted more time to her film career, appearing inThe Man Who Came to Dinner(1942),新娘的父亲(1950),Father's Little Dividend(1951), and many other films. But she is best-remembered for her role as Glinda the Good Witch inThe Wizard of Oz(1939).
