This Irish-Mexican actor first appeared on film in 1936. After a long succession of bit parts, he won twoOscars(Viva Zapata!1952;Lust for Life, 1956) and was nominated two additional times (Wild Is the Wind, 1957;Zorba the Greek, 1964). He also made memorable appearances in Fellini'sLa Strada(1954) andLawrence of Arabia(1962). His more recent work includes playing Zeus on the TV seriesHercules(1994) and roles in the filmsLast Action Hero(1993) andA Walk in the Clouds(1995). Quinn was married to Katherine DeMille, the adopted daughter ofCecil B. De Mille (divorced 1965). He married twice more, first to wife of 31 years, Iolanda Quinn (divorced in 1997), and then to Kathy Benvin.
