利兰·斯坦福，加州国会(1824-1893)

斯坦福大学,利兰来自加州的参议员;1824年3月9日出生于纽约州沃特弗利特;修读学术课程;学习法律;1848年获准行医;搬到了威斯康星州的华盛顿港。，同年从事律师执业;1852年搬到加州在冷泉开了一家矿工杂货店1855年搬到萨克拉门托从事大规模的商业活动;“四大”之一，他建造了中央太平洋铁路，并在1863年担任该铁路公司的总裁;在西部修建了几条铁路; founder of Leland Stanford Junior University; Governor of California 1861-1863; returned to private business; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1885; reelected in 1891 and served from March 4, 1885, until his death in Palo Alto, Calif., June 21, 1893; chairman, Committee on Public Buildings and Grounds (Fiftieth through Fifty-second Congresses); interment in a masoleum on the grounds of Stanford University.
