Walters became the first woman to anchor the network nightly news when she signed with ABC in 1976, but she cut her newsroom teeth on NBC'sToday(1963–76), moving up the ladder from writer and researcher, to an onscreen Today Girl, to the morning show's first female host. She leftABC Evening Newsin 1979 to become a correspondent for20/20and eventually became its co-anchor (1984–2004). Her other television work includesThe Barbara Walters Show(1992), for which she won one of her numerousEmmy Awards, and the daytime talk showThe View(1998–present).
